'Police Inspector' Rapes 15-Year-Old Girl, at gun point

An Inspector of Police attached to Maradun Local Government Divisional Police headquarters in Zamfara State and a civilian are being accused of raping a 15year-old girl.

Inspector Abdullahi Ibrahim and Aliyu Ibrahim (alias August) who are held at the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Gusau, allegedly raped the 15-year-old (names withheld) at gunpoint on her way back from a Sallah outing on September 2, 2011 Daily Trust gathered.

It was learnt that the victim was in the company of her female friend when they were stopped at about 630pm by the Police officer who was on guard duty at the divisional police station in Maradun.

According to the father, the Inspector challenged the girls to explain how they came about the picture of some Fulani men they were holding, whom he described as wanted armed robbery suspects.

The father also explained that all their explanations that they picked the picture on the road were rejected by the Inspector, who ordered the young girls to follow him to a secluded place.

“After reaching a bushy area, the girls sensed danger and tried to escape but in the process, my daughter fell down and was caught by the policeman,” he said.

The father also said that the cop was immediately joined by the other alleged accomplice, who according to him helped him to pin the girl to the ground as they took turns to rape her.

He added that whenever she attempted screaming, the policeman would use his rifle to hit her at the mouth. He also showed Daily Trust reporter injuries on the girl’s legs, saying they were inflicted by the accused rapists.

Meanwhile, a police source at the state police command confirmed to our correspondent that investigation into the alleged crime has since commenced and that the parties were asked to return to the police headquarters on Friday.

“The case is a big source of embarrassment to the state police command,” the source said.

Similarly, the victim’s father who was in the company of the victim and her friend told Daily Trust at Gusau on Tuesday that they came to the state capital that day for a meeting with the police over the issue, saying he will accept nothing other than justice to his violated daughter.

However, all attempts to speak with the Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer failed as calls put to his phone were unsuccessful.
